Editor: I learned from John Zipperer’s article in the February 2012 edition that the Examiner has been sold by Philip Anschutz to the Black Press Group.

Hadn’t noticed. Zipperer wonders whether the Black Press Group will “continue the populist right-wing editorial voice of the Anschutz years.” To me, “populist right-wing” is an oxymoron. Zipperer would like to “Give San Francisco a daily voice that can be moderate or even conservative” and hopes the Examiner won’t have a daily editorial voice that is “lamely leftist.” I haven’t paid attention to the Examiner under Anschutz, but I hope the new owners will give the Examiner a populist left-wing voice, one that is “powerfully leftist” rather than “lamely leftist.” Something along the powerfully leftist lines of the San Francisco Bay Guardian would be nice.
