When we decided to do a cover story on my favorite chefs, considering the talent here in the Bay Area, it was a daunting task. I had to sit down and think beyond food to the qualities that I admire in people generally. What draws me to people is their passion for what they’re doing. Another is loyalty, to each other, to family and respect for tradition. Beyond just their cooking skills, there is the further dimension of artistry – inventiveness.
