The Cowell Theater at Fort Mason Center plays host to the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour on March 8 and 9. The traveling festival, whose San Francisco stop is sponsored by REI, will feature some of the award-winning selections from last year’s festival, an annual showcase of mountain-inspired filmmaking, held every October in Banff, Alberta, Canada.

The 15 films featured in San Francisco, one of five Bay Area stops, are just the tip of the iceberg. Banff judges received nearly 300 submissions last year, from which 50 finalists were selected and screened at the festival.
