Olympia Dukakis brings Rose to Jewish Community Center, Nov. 9 & 10By Bruce Bellingham Many San Franciscans will always remember Olympia Dukakis as Mrs. Anna Madrigal in the television version of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City. Some may recall her role as Cher's lugubrious mother in Moonstruck, or her more recent performance in Away From Her with Julie Christie. They are all very strong, very different roles. Ms. Dukakis further demonstrates her versatility and deft acting in a concert reading of Rose, the story of a woman in her 80s who looks back at her life, from her birth in the Ukraine, her escape from the Nazis, and her new-found life in America. Rose: Kanbar Hall, Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, 3200 California St. (at Presidio), Nov. 9 -10, 8 p.m., tickets $55 & $60 at 415-292-1233 or www.jccsf.org/arts |
