trannyshack.northside07You can almost hear the shrieking already. Trannyshack, a drag revue that started 12 years ago as a small yet outrageous drag revue at The Stud bar on Harrison Street, has snared the great Sandra Bernhard to be a celebrity judge at the Miss Trannyshack Pageant at the San Francisco Giftcenter on Nov. 17.

Over the years, Trannyshack has become a bit of a local cultural phenomenon.
Bernhard, who is a real veteran of the stage, movies and television, comes to San Francisco occasionally, performing variations of her 1998 one-woman Broadway hit, I'm Still Here … Damn It! She's appeared on Ally McBeal, Will & Grace, and is a frequent guest on David Letterman and Jay Leno's show. Bernhard also writes madly for many magazines and has published three books, including May I Kiss You on the Lips, Miss Sandra? She's also a terrific singer. Her version of Me and Mrs. Jones is a wonderment.

The Miss Trannyshack Pageant will be hosted by the irrepressible emcee Heklina. Other celebrity judges include author James St. James, (he wrote Disco Bloodbath), Fernando and Greg from KNGY-FM (Energy 92.7), Peaches Christ, Anna Conda (Miss Trannyshack 2004), and Brent Smith with the Men of Hothouse Entertainment.

As Lawrence Helman says, "It's time to polish up your tiaras." That's the spirit.

Miss Trannyshack Pageant: San Francisco Giftcenter and Jewelrymart, 888 Bryant St. (at 8th), Saturday, Nov. 17, doors open at 9 p.m., pageant begins at 10 p.m., tickets $35 in advance/$45 at the door.
